# Workspace setup

> Create a workspace, log in with Roblox, and invite staff.

A workspace is the container for one Roblox group's staff: its roles, events,
posts, training and API usage all belong to it. One group, one workspace.

## Create it

<Steps>
  <Step title="Create from an owned group">
    Workspaces can only be created from a group you own. Crovant reads the
    group's ranks when the workspace is created and turns them into roles.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Sign in with Roblox">
    Authentication is Roblox OAuth, so roles stay in step with the group. There
    is no separate Crovant account or password to manage.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Invite staff and confirm access">
    Have someone sign in and confirm they can reach the panel. If they cannot,
    their role almost certainly still has panel access disabled — see
    [Roles and permissions](/guides/roles-and-permissions).
  </Step>
</Steps>

## What is bound to the group

Because access derives from the group, changes there flow through:

| Change in Roblox | Effect in Crovant |
| ------------------------------ | --------------------------------------------------- |
| Someone is promoted or demoted | Their access follows their new rank on next sign-in |
| Someone leaves the group | They lose portal access |
| A rank is renamed | The Crovant role keeps its permissions |

<Note>
  Access is evaluated when a session is established. Someone already signed in
  keeps their session until it expires or they sign out.
</Note>

## Ownership

The workspace owner is the group owner. Ownership can be transferred, which is
recorded and takes effect for the new owner immediately — useful when a group
changes hands and you want portal control to follow it.
